So this year I want to redo some rooms which means new paint jobs as well. How to I get the dried up cracked wall effect? The paint chipping off etc. Thanks

Read the parts on these pages about sodium silicate & boarding..(I call it 'blocking') those will give you good results

here is an easy technique I saw on an indestructable
creaturerevengesays:
No problem! A little side note... if you are actually looking for a good paint cracking effect... start with a base coat of a dark gray or black (really any color would work, those just seem to punch the most) then paint on a coating of boiled linseed oil. Let it dry completely then paint on whatever color you want your peeling paint to be (again latex house paint, I always try to stay away from enamel due to the smell, difficulty to clean, and they just don't seem to cooperate when trying different effects). Let the paint dry then bust out the 'ol heating gun and give it a blast. The paint will crack and peel quite nicely. A must have technique for any silent hill fan!
good luck,
Allen H

I tried what you suggested and it didn't work. I am sure I did something wrong LOL. I'm just not sure what it was. The first coat of paint was just one coat. The oil was put on and I let it dry for 2 days, I did wipe some off after it was first put on because it was dripping a little. The paint that I put on top dried for 24 hours. When I put the heat gun to it all that was done to the paint was bubble. Should I have more oil ? let it dry longer ,less? If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I let it dry for like 45 min everytime I do it. dont waint so long the oil was absorbed by the first coat of paint.
let me know how it goes.
