I had an idea for a unique theme today...something set in ancient times, like Egypt or Greece. Has anyone ever done this? I've seen a few scenes in haunted houses like this before, but not the whole haunt.
I've seen entire home haunts with the Egyptian theme and Universal Studios Hollywood actually had the Mummy walk through attraction before it was replaced with the Vanhelsing walkthrough a few years ago when the movies were at their peak. The Mummy walk through haunt inspired me to draw up room ideas for an entire haunt that was Egyptian themed. I haven't executed any of the ideas or rooms, but I have them drawn up and waiting.
The 13th Gate had something like that. It must be fairly common. Unit 70 and some other companies sell a variety of props and animations with the theme.
Supposidly some of the copper items from ancient Egypt were molecularly proven to have been mined in Minnesota!
Some of the Egyptian gold being mined was found to be highly radioactive.
The gold mask of King Tut made an EMF meter go nuts! (Maybe it's "Haunted"?)
So..a Minnesota haunt could have discovered an Egyptian tomb there while looking for radioactive elements, that happened to also be gold, but don't use it in your teeth!
Everyone knows Minnesota was home to pre-Columbus Vikings and knights Templar, not Egyptians.
As far as the original question, I'm sure it's been done, but I still think that a well done theme based on an ancient culture can stand out. Egyptian or Greek would give a much tighter theme than a random mix of Egyptian/Indian/Mayan/Greek/Roman/Aztec that get used as generic ruins.
I had been thinking about a haunt themed after Ancient Pompeii, it really would have a lot of potential, but using a historic event... may not be the best idea ;3 Then again, people get away with Civil War themes and the like...
Yeah...I've seen some of the Egyptian themed stuff.
What I would really like to do is something involving Atlantis. I'm a diver and it's always been an interest of mine. Not exactly sure how I could create a haunt out of it though lol. I'm sure it can be done, it would just take a lot of brainstorming.
Dirty old people running amuck....lmfao, throwing crap and slurring, drooling.....grandma gumming your arm.... OH WAIT hell.... maybe thats just my nightmare....LMFAO

In my pro haunt which will open in 2 to 6 years, I will have a history themed house every year called Mars' House of Horrors!
That's a bit of a time span difference, 4 to 6 years. Am I missing something or can someone connect history and mars with one another? Unless Mar is a person not a planet? hahaha!

One mans junk is another mans kick-ass new prop...
That is what I lettered on the side of a wooden dumpster-looking creation.
And what could be found in history's dumpster?
All kinds of funny things. Some of them were still alive!
I also had a Harley/AMF golf cart made into a mobile weapons platform, too late coming out of the factory to swing the tide for the American Indians and to become a horse replacement.
Historical items can be alot of fun, especially when You make up the history! (Just like everybody else does!)
