    @daemon, @oakhills...

I took us about five days to build the sawmill, spread out over a couple weekends. Add another day to make the waterwheel -it actually turns under water power.

But alas, yes, the fake doors etc... there's only so much time! (tho some of what you see is painting from the prior year - we have to tear down every year and rebuild, so we reuse the OSB and repaint etc. But this year we got to keep some stuff up - woo hoo!).

Thanks Shawn. Yes, the skull is on the silo all year. I made it out of chicken wire and spray foam, the silo is 45' tall. It didn't come out as well as I like. It kind of looks like Snow Miser, so I had it altered for our logo to make it look better. Phil, frightland.com

    Phil,

Your place looks awesome! Do you actually have that giant skull on the barn silo?

Damon, there are a bunch of videos on his website.

    Thanks Allen and Damon,
Just two of us build it in about 6 days. using the premade fence saved us a lot of time and money. I think I might have some video and better picture I can dig up. Phil

    saw mill build

We did a saw mill on our hayride last year and also have a ghost town but not on the hayride. Here are a few pictures building the saw mill but I don't have any finished with detail shots on hand. these might give you some ideas.
we made a 12' working water wheel that had a running water trough over the doorway to make it spin. we made the trough drip water on patrons too, which included a fake stream out of 4" river rock. For the walls we used double rows of 6' high PT dog ear fence. we went 12' high, we used 6" X 6"x 16' PT post. We used deck screws with washers so it can be dismantled, but we got a special permit so we could leave it up all year. For the ceiling we had a 80% shade clothe made. We build a 8' x 16' room inside for a saw gag, actor cut in half. We had 40"' spinning saw blades come down from the ceiling at the end. once out of the saw mill we have a lumber jack above the wagon in a Osha approved safety net, he bounce right over their heads swinging a foam axes over the side of the net. we also had a big diesel tow behind wood chipper. We disconnected the blades, had the actor throwing body parts in chute and put a snow machine and red light on the output to simulate wood/body chips, also had 3 loads of fresh wood chips dump around the set for smell and extra hiding spots for more actors. We used an old stake body truck with logging decals as a prop. I was going to make a Pneumatic fake log wall on the truck bed and have it fall towards and over the wagon but I ran short on time, that will be added this year. Phil Miller Frightland

Wow Stever I looked at all 392 of those pictures and I gotta tell ya that is one of the best setups I've seen. I like the realism over animatronics like The Darkness that shit scares me to the core. So I'm just sayin I like the realism in the detail of your thing you got going. The ONLY thing I didn't like were those doors that were painted on. The fake paintings of doors kinda bummed me out shoulda just built false doors man but beyond that I lik a day pictures. Mining themed sawmill

We do a mining theme. Inside we made a big saw from two sheets of OSB, gives us four 4' diameter blades that spin, cutting a body of course (how original!). This pic doesn't show much but the blade, maybe it'll get you thinking:

We built a sawmill building, here's some pics; sorry none show the whole thing nor any finished pics but you can get some ideas:

We did an old west theme last season for our hayride. Our general manager / chief designer searched ghost town pictures on the internet for inspiration. While we did not have a saw mill, the pictures were a lot of help in giving us direction for sets such as our Spanish mission and Ghost Town.

Rent "twister" I think thats the name, its the Bill paxton tornado movie, in one scene they enter a barn to hide from the storm and there is all these tools hanging from the ceiling its just a great scary place, I picture light coming in through a window with a slow moving fan in it, I mean slow moving like 6 rpm or so. Lots of dust in the air.
Another visual reference is actually in the Worlds of Warcraft game, ask someone who plays to show you the east vale logging camp.
    Good luck,
    Allen H

Check out this pic of Richiardi, the Magician, sawing a woman in half with a buzz saw. I saw this in person once. Just a thought.
