  • Lord Grimley Vegas Recap

Ok first off wtf was transworld thinking allowing big pink frilly bags with tassels as the buyer bags. Almost everyone ditched them after taking their badges out. Could you imagine walking through the casinos with a big pink and black frilly bag. A little too much.

@@@@@@@ A note to the Vendors. Some of you guys may face some major backlash with the whole haunt pavillion. I knew going into it that it was mostly signage but most everyone else did not. The buyers were PISSED!!!! I would start kissing butt now because the buyers fully expected the companies listed in the book and on the website to be there to talk and take orders. They were furious and felt betrayed by Transworld and the vendors that were involved. You could hear the conversations as you walked the aisles. It was a pretty pathetic site to see a banner and some business cards.

As far as attendance it was beyond dead and I have been to the last six shows. Houston was a little slow but Vegas was dead. Nobody was there. The only upside to this was prices were more negotiable as we found out. I spoke to everyone we bought from and by day two everyone said the show sucked as far as sales.

I spoke to some of the big shots from Transworld as I said I would. They said they were committed to two shows for 2010 due to the leases they signed but they did say that last year too. I can safely say after this show that we can be rest assured they will recombine them next year. If they don't Transworld is screwed. If you were there you would know what I mean. St. Louis will probably draw higher sales then Vegas. I never saw more then 5 buyers on an isle and this was both days. The only vendor I met that was happy with the show was gag studios who sold their whole booth the first day. But he was forcing the issue of combining the shows back as he said his sales suffered due to the split.( GAG has a very cool new tombstone that vibrates and oozes fog).

The only good news I can relay is one that we got prices and shipping costs down. we found two new vendors that we placed orders with. It use to take one day and half to cover the showroom floor. This year we covered the show spent time making 5 purchases, talked to vendors, ate lunch and were done by two. The worst thing Transworld and the vendors could have done was that haunt pavilion.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking they set up the haunt pavilion to advertise the St. Louis show. That would be my only guess. And with all the buyers that dont follow every dtail about TW, they didnt realixe that the haunt show was moved.

I sure hope they dont combine up next year, and move it back to Chicago.

Like I said in an earlier post, I hope that there wasn't much press at Vegas. If there was it's going to make Halloween look unprofessional and small. Just imagine a reporter trying to find someone to interview and having to walk a mile to find a customer. Or think of a writer entering the haunt pavilion and taking pictures and writing a story about what He's seen. Then on top of that you have the Houston Show which was slow. How much bad press can Halloween get and in the end it makes the haunt industry also look bad.

        Why are vendors to blame?

Thanks for the report... pretty sad situation out there.
I feel bad for the Vegas vendors but I must say that I feel pretty wise right now for not displaying there.

I don't know why you are pointing the finger at vendors though. I am one of those vendors and I can tell you we NEVER intended on vending in Vegas. All of our tradeshow marketing dollars are going into St. Louis and have been since day 1.

TW contacted us and the other vendors a couple of weeks ago with a "great program". We could send them $30 and a stack of brochures and they would graciously put them on a table in Vegas for us with a nice sign. That is the extent of the vendor’s involvement! I don’t feel this was misleading the public in any way. If us vendors are also listed in the directory as being actual exhibitors in Vegas then that’s not right and TW would be the one to talk to.

I, as well as many, many other vendors, have been telling our customers for months that we would ONLY be doing St. Louis. There have never been any misleading comments to the effect that us vendors would ALSO be in Vegas.

On the contrary, I have been trying like MAD to get the word out that St. Louis is THE show.

So I feel that any finger pointing at the vendors is unwarranted.

        Doug.

I am not really blaming the vendors. If I were a vendor I would want to know what happened. I am just giving you the reaction the other buyers had at the show. It was very misleading having it on the floor plan with your names attached to the booths. They even went so far as to block it off in its own separate section as they had done in the past. The only vendor that showed was Haunted Enterprises ( A Vegas Company) and a new company that was very similar to Skulltronix with projected busts talking.

            Yup

I agree with Grimley that some folks were upset about the Haunt Pavillion. But at least what was expressed to me was disgust or anger towards TW and not the Haunt vendors. A couple of the vendors that exhibited said they picked their booth location because TW sold them on it being near the Haunt Pavillion but when they got there and saw it was basically a dead corner felt misled to put it kindly.

Shame on TW and the HPC show.

If you looked at the floor layout of vender's last week
it appeared like the haunt zone was full of vendor's.
The TRUTH is, it only had 2 --- yes, TWO vendor's
Shipwreck was one and Haunted Enterprises the other.
The remainder of the haunt zone was full of tables
with vendor flyer's and a sign with the vendor name
and there booth number for St Louis saying
              "See you in St Louis"

Shame on TW and the HPC show. How low can you be,
to make people think that a vendor will be at the show when
you know they won't. In My Opinion: that is very dishonest.

              On a good note
Thank you, Thank you, Randy and Candace.

Randy and Candace of Haunted Enterprises
was having a "meet and greet" for few select
              costumers.

As people stopped by The Haunted Enterprises
booth asking what happened to the haunt zone and
what's with all the empty boots. (Note: Friday nor Saturday
did I ever see one person from TW or HPC there to
answer the questions and field complaints.)

Well Randy, being the great guy he is, one by one, he
and Candace would tell the disappointed Haunters.
"Hey we are having a little get together at the shop,
come on by for free drink and snacks". It went from
a private party to an open party for all haunters, with
Haunted Enterprises picking up the hole tab.

Thanks again, Randy and Candace, your the best.
To TW and HPC - - Shame Shame Shame
IMO: TW and HPC owes Haunted Enterprises BIG TIME,
for taking it upon themselves to try and make haunters
trip to THERE DISAPPOINTING show, a little better.

I have to agree it was the most misleading information Transworld has ever put out there. False advertisement to say the least.

Aside from the fact that the shows attendance blows... was the stuff people had in their booths cool? Was there any new cool stuff or was it the same old same old. Larry

                    No big WOW, for me.
                    No got to have.
One vendor went from a $500 min. order
last year, down to $100 min. order now.

                      Woow!

I know im repeating what Doug from Frightprops said......
But i too was under the impression that they were going to set a table out with our flyers and poster board....NOT t advertise us in the FLOOR PLAN as a VENDOR.

                      I am speechless.

I will have to third that statement.
We also did not know we were in the floor plan.

I am sure they (Transworld) were trying to salvage the show.
I thought it was a great move to help promote the St Louis show by allowing St Louis vendors to put literature out for buyers to take. I think they realized they needed to do that to make sure all Haunt buyers were going to be in St Louis since they knew this show was not going to do well.
                        Honestly,
We (Haunt Vendors) had also informed Haunted Enterprises and Shipwreck that there were going to be NO haunt vendors at this show.
So, they knew they were taking a big risk to attend this show. I hope it paid off for them. They had a captive audience. The good thing is they both live fairly close by so their travel costs were lower.

So, it really looks like most buyers realize that THE show is the HAUNT SHOW in St Louis if there were hardly any buyers there. Atleast that is how it looks to me.

Maybe its time for an organization like HHA to tell Transworld to get lost and gather everyone to host the show.
