Ok 2009 is here and it's time to start updated our website. We are changing the looks of everything and I was wondering. Do you think it is appropriate to use a little gore in your advertisement. I don't see it used that much and I have mixed thoughts about it. My idea is a butcher looking guy holding a severed head. Of course there will be other things but this would be the only gory part. I want to hear your suggestions. Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with it. While there is such a thing as too much gore in advertising, too much being when censors/sponsors become displeased with you or when there's more of it in your TV spot than your haunt, what you described sounds cosier to me.Last edited by Smiley; 02-12-2009, 12:37 PM.

When you are designing your commercials, website, Internet and print ads, you want to keep your sponsors, or potential sponsors, in mind. We have had a poster re-designed to satisfy a sponsor before. They wanted us to change the ad to appear less "demonic". Of course we are located in the heart of the Bible-belt. I tell you what, I gladly satisfied the sponsors request! Anyway, just a word of caution. It is much easier to secure sponsors with a more mainstream and family friendly look and feel. The ultimate decision is up to you as the owner. Again, just something to consider.

I Refuse!
To modify my haunt or any logos just to get a church to sponser me!
I told the Church of Satan to quit calling me!
I shut off my Oui-Ja board too!
Have any of you ever had a satanist want to buy your haunted house?
I did. I just laughed at him and made fun of him and his "Hocus-pocus BS"!
(Now what do I do with this extra arm, it sticks out of my Froggy! Quiet suckling Pig! I'm trying to type!"
I have to buy such BIG shirts to play hide and seek!

The point about 'R' movies was really good. I hadn't even thought about it in that way before. And believe me, I do a lot of thinking about haunts.
In my opinion, what to include and what not to include depends on your demographic. If you're catering to teens and early 20's, then you should definitely use gore--at least some. Teens love gore. And I have a pretty reliable source--myself. I am nearly 14 years old and I love gore now.
But, if you're aiming more for the upper ages 35+ (which is somewhat high for a haunt demographic), then don't use too much gore, if any.
Given, I don't a haunt to base this information on, but I do a lot of reading about haunts and operating haunts. This conclusion has been drawn from what others have said.~Jon-Kyle Bailey

Logic or faulty logic-you decide.
So, the "R" rated movie takes in millions, then logically you should create an "R" rated haunt?
NO! Stupid! Follow the logic!
You should make the movie!
Or open a casino?
Forget haunted houses.
Life is scary because many times the "givens", "Facts" , ex cetra are fluid and slippery and changing, sometimes never to return.
We all have to be flexible in our thinking and how we do things to succeed.
Take the advise of the Three Stooges:"If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking till you do suck seed."
"Pa-toohee! almost choked on that one!"

I don't like gore in the advertisement. I believe you make it look scary but not gory. Not only that I don't want any problems being able to put flyers and the such out at places that normally let us.
Some gore in the haunt is one thing but we don't want any trouble being able to get the word out.
See? You should have just asked me I could have told you, LOL!Jared Layman

Being that we're on the subject of gore in advertisement, what do you guys think of this poster and flyer? We're going into our first year as a commercial haunt, and we have Chris from Rogues Hollow doing our website and marketing materials for us. I think the poster looks great, and shouldn't turn people off gore wise. I think the flyer looks good as well, but I was thinking the bloody axe may be a bit over the top for some people or potential sponsors? What do you guys think?
BTW, Chris and Rogues Hollow are great to work with, awesome artwork, and awesome customer service. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for great cinematic marketing materials.
