Come on Howie!!! Detroit has got to be the worst city in America. Not trying to offend, but Detroit's repuatation is unbearably bad. Bad politics like mayors, pot holes everywhere, no jobs, high crime, poverty, etc...I know every city deals with these problems but Detroit always ranks near the top in all those things...I'm sure there are many bright spots but I doubt the convention circuit looks deeply into Detroit, I could be wrong?

If Transworld moved out to California or Vegas again. I probably would never go. It's way to far. Keep it in St. Louis or Chicago. Also Howie is right about Michigan. If it where ever to come here one year. There are a couple haunts that I'm sure would open up for everyone. I think Michigan has close to 50 haunts now in the metro Detroit area? Everyone hears Detroit and thinks of bad things and it's all ghetto. Yes some parts are ghetto but there are a lot of really nice parts to visit. Including cool places in the outer suburbs as well. But I don't care where it is, as long as it stays in the mid center of the states.

Detroit always gets a bad wrap in the media. Have you ever visited Detroit? True that the inner city has a high poverty level and crime rate to go along with it. But I am not suggesting you visit the inner city neighborhoods. The downtown area has been built up over the last few years. Lets see, we have hosted the MLB All Star game and the Superbowl. We host the largest international Auto Show in the world. We host several huge tattoo conventions as well as comic conventions. We have 4 pro sports teams which have won several championships over the last dozen years. We have the largest fireworks celebration and festival in the country.

By the way, politicians everywhere are crooked. We ousted the former Mayor and he went to jail. We have a new temporary mayor and will soon be electing a new mayor. Probably, Dave Bing who was an all star Detroit Piston in the day and a pillar of the community.

By the way, according to the 2007 FBI crime rate statistics, Detroit is not even close to worst crime rate anymore. St louis has less than half the population of Detroit. Here are some numbers for you. Violent crimes Detroit 2,289 - St Louis 2,198, Murder or Manslaughter Detroit 46 - St Louis 40, Rape Detroit 40 - St Louis 73, Robbery Detroit 764 - St Louis 793, Aggravated Assault Detroit 1,440 - St Louis 1,292, Property Crime Detroit 6,772 - St Louis 9,736, Burglary Detroit 2,064 - St Louis 2,093, Larceny Theft Detroit 2,430 - St Louis 5,839, Motor Vehicle Theft Detroit 2,278 - St Louis 1,804 & Arson Detroit 88 - St Louis 118. These are the most recent official numbers released. Hmm it seems that St Louis ranks worst in most categories .

It does not have to be in the city of Detroit either. There are many convention centers in the suburbs.

By the way, my haunted house is in Warren Michigan. 1 block North of Detroit. In seven years of operation, we have never had any major security problem.

I am so sick of people bashing Detroit because of the way the media portrays it. The fact is that the Detroit area is a great place to be. Tons of stuff to do. Great hard working people. I would not want to live anywhere else!

I don't really care where it is, I'll go. For the vendors sake, the midwest makes the most sense, so St. Louis is fine by me (hope my opinion doesn't change after the show).

However, my bet is that the show will be back with the Halloween Costume and Party show, wherever that may be, but my guess is either Chicago or Vegas. So seeing as that's what I believe the choice will be between, I'm picking Vegas. Quite simply because I've had enough Chicago weather, but being a realist, it'll probably be back in Chicago because of logistics (easier for vendors to get to). Can we start a petition to get them to consider the city of Chicago vs. Rosemont?

Michigan as a whole is beautiful. I have been to other states and Michigan is a much nicer looking state then most. Our economy is a different story but we know why that is bad here.

Detroit is a HUGE city. There is some bad spots but most of the metro area is really nice. Look up Forbes 2009 worst cities and see which ones are ranked ahead of Detroit. Chicago and Memphis notably are ranked worst. Look it up.

Look I'm not St. Louis freak I just live here. Denver is 10 times better than St. Louis, so is Orlando, Detroit... ahhhh no St. Louis all the way! LOL

I've been to a lot of cities and by no means is St. Louis as cool as Denver, or Orlando, or San Diego, or whatever. St. Louis is better than say Philly, or New York, or whatever because St. Louis is small enough that you can't really get lost or overwhelmed.

Philly, New York and all those massive cities are just that massive!

St. Louis for haunts who want things cheap, simple and to the point is perfect. If I move and move to Alaska I would still say put it in the middle...

Do I want to stay living here? Ask Patti that question because the answer is NO! I want to move to some small town somewhere or LA one or the other.

Whatever is in the middle works best. In my view St. Louis beats out Chicago by a mile...

1) Better locaton more central to everyone
2) Cheaper convention center
3) Cheaper hotels, food, etc.

St. Louis has rough weather but nothing like Chicago. But again we're aren't talking Chicago we are talking ROSEMONT which is a sponge a money sponge of give me give me... no thanks.

I can honestly say that if the show was to move to Chicago in 2010 I would not attend. I would skip it. I was ready to skip it before they moved it to Vegas.

I wouldn't mind Vegas because its better for weather, and fun. If they move it to Orlando I would go, just not ROSEMONT... I'm serious in saying I WOULD NOT GO! I want the show to be fun to attend on top of doing some business. I just don't look forward to going to Rosemont. I did look forward to visiting Vegas and I would go back there but it doesn't work for the vendors and mass majory of buyers who want to drive.

All you guys will find St Louis very inviting, very friendly, big city that feels small and in the end I do hope you go out there and go bowling, or catch the museums or whatever...you are in a new city explore.

I'll put my vote in for Michigan. The metro Detroit area has dozens of convention centers that would be great for TW. Plus, with the way the economy has been in MI, I am sure there would be great deals on the convention center as well as lodging. There is also a ton of reasonable entertainment including 3 great casinos. While here take in a Red Wing Game. Windsor is only a few minutes away as well. And the last I checked, Michigan is still the haunted house capital of the world. Plus we border Ohio which also has a huge amount of haunts. Hauntcon went over very well when it was hosted here a couple years ago. There are several haunts that I am sure would be glad to get involved in the haunt tours including Realm of Darkness which is a very detailed haunt, Erebus which has the Guinness record for largest walk through haunted attraction and of course Deadly Intentions which has been rated as one of the scariest haunted houses around since 2003.

Say yes to Michigan.

I agree! although I suppose my agreement also comes in part that I live merely 20 minutes from the great city of Detroit. However working in the hospitality industry rates are down especially during the transworld time. I'd be more then happy to speak with all sales managers who would be more then willing to get group rates going with business being so DEAD no pun intended .

I think you would be suprised if you ever visit Detroit's downtown. Putting politics and potholes aside It's not as rundown as made to believe. People still come out for our car show!

I can't vote if Chicago and Indy are left out. Indianapolis is even MORE centrally located thaan St Louis. I said it last year and I will say it again. INDY, INDY, INDY. Easy to get around. Similar weather to St Louis

OK I will throw my 2 cents in here. I have heard allot of complaining for the last 3 years as to how the Transworld people treat the haunters and their lack of effort to boast the show.

Once again, in my opinion why not walk away from them and make MHC in Columbus Ohio the place to be. I know you all claim it isn't a true trade show, because it has social events and haunt tours, although the last I looked TW has social events and haunt tours (beside how many times can you go see one haunt anyhow). So what makes it, any different. and I also here MHC is too late in the season, YES but it can be moved up earlier, this is impossible to do on a year maybe two's notice, it takes planning and committment.

My arguement for MHC is based on 1. expense you get a 2 for 1 deal, you can get 2 10x10 booths at MHC for the price of 1 10x10 at TW. 2. MHC does not have drayage fees. 3. Several options for haunts to visit on the tours or several haunts to open there doors and let you look around. 4. It is run by HAUNTERS not by an outside the industry company that doen't understand our industry. 5. You are in the back yard of a few of the industries largest manufacturers in the industry. This list can go on and on but these are my main points.

MHC can be tweaked to make it an even better show then it is, but you must keep in mind "Rome wasn't built in a day"

St. Louis better than the D??!

St. Louis couldn't handle Detroit, LOL! Larry have you ever been to Detroit or Michigan for that matter? Detroit has more nice square mileage then the entire size of St. Louis. St. Louis is cool but I hate to tell you minus the arch the city looks a lot like Detroit, LOL! So basically Larry you live in a smaller more crime filled version of the D, LOL! I'm just messing with you.

All teasing aside though Detroit is not what the media has portrayed it to be. It is a huge city and has a lot of potential. I believe the way our state is run is our biggest problem. Michigan is a beautiful state with a pretty good size population(which seems to be dwindling lately) People SHOULD want to come here. Maybe when when we get our shit straight and realize the auto industry can no longer be our cash cow things will take off again. That being said I don't really want to move Transworld here. Maybe some sort of haunt fan convention in the summer would be cool though.
