IDK... I tend to agree with Paul on alot, but not this, why? Because eventually... they'll HAVE to show, they can't just stop showing and expect business to keep coming in. There will be new, better companies that will start to pull customers from Unit 70, forcing them to show. It's simple business predicting... I hope they're able to show, but don't support this industry... it'll stop supporting you!

Like I said, I HOPE they show... but in the end, only they will decide. I want to get some stuff from them... but some other people that work for me are advising that if they don't show, don't buy from them. Why? They keep telling me to NOT just purchase product based off of a web picture... that I need to see the real thing in person. IDK... with Unit70's rep... I could probably buy online and be very happy.

Now, personally... I'm not a vendor (could change)... and I hate to say it, but I support this industry as a whole... not vendors, not haunts, as a whole. So, don't show.... don't support. Simple equation. I've already have some props and animations from Unit70, but we planned on getting some more; especially some BIG ones! But... idk... if we can't see it in person without making a special trip to their shop, we probably won't buy! Thing is, there WILL be prop/animation companies there with "similar" items that we'll be able to see in person. Ok, Ok... I'll say it.. as much as "I" don't want to buy from Scarefactory... I might have to because they WILL be at the show and we WILL get to see the new stuff in person.

Oh well... to each there own. -Tyler

My friend let me assure you that if they miss a few sales it want hurt them one bit. All major haunts out there including Graystone Manor knows what they have to offer. Word of mouth is better advertizing than at any show, ad, commerical, or even on the net you can ever get!

My Company still does it the old school way. I don't do shows anymore and don't maintain a website. And still its all we can do to keep up. If I did a show or took internet orders it would jeopardize my company as I would not be able to keep up. I built my company over 20 years ago back then even the net was just getting started.

Tyler your still sooooooooo young and have a lot to learn. But rest assured don't sell yourself or your business short just because a vendor chooses whats best for his company and its customers. World of mouth will build you or destroy you. Shane and its old school. Shane this time

        Shane,

It's just not me... it's my partner (Ed, 24+ years retail exec.) and my crew... all saying the same thing. I guess we'll see... I hope they show! Like I said... give it enough time and they'll be forced too! -Tyler

PS: I don't I'm selling our company short, we already have a few of their props and animations... just we'll have REALLY consider future purchases if they stop showing.

Your partner Ed did he manage or own? If he owned his on company then he surly knows where I am coming from. If he only managed thats no where the same as owning. Tyler its your haunt if I understand it right. So who cares what your crew says if they don't have a financial stake in it. Now if they do well thats another story but I will still say they are wrong. But thats my opinion.

Again Bo, Brady I know your not going to give 2 thoughts to this thread but you can see most will buy wheither or not you show and I know you guys know that. LOL

I'm not trying to be an ass but if Unit 70 is so successful that they don't have time to attend any more shows then why don't they expand just a little? Many companies in this industry say they are too busy to advertise their product to buyers. It would seem to me that hiring a few more people and going to the shows would make more sense.

              Lawd!

Bottom line .This is the kind of company that every company shoud be more like. Instead of taking a week off and running around the country. They rather stay and work on products and work on getting them out. Thats the very reason you never hear people bitch about them for not getting their products or getting them on time.

The only thing I have ever heard was sometimes they are hard to get in touch with and they just don't drop what they are doing and answer a phone. Why? Again they are WORKING AND NOT RUNNING ALL AROUND THE WORD TO SHOWS! Just because some wants to play with their toys on a show floor. Pick up the damn phone and call them. Better yet why do they have to come to you? Why can't you go to them? Wal-Mart don't bring product to you when you need them you go to them. Why should a vendor be any different? Wal-Mart is a vendor!

If they don't answer leave a message they will call you right back. I will even go you one better if they don't answer call me I will get intouch with them for you. Now you couple of people stop putting pressure on them to show. They might just decied your not worth their time anyway if your going to bitch just because they don't show. I honestly think Larry started this thread to show support for them and to tell them the Industry would like to see them. But I hope and thinks he will agree either way we will support them. Not for a few to bitch because they don't show. Shane and its lets move on from here. Shane this time.

I will have to back Shane 100% on his explanation. I would give anything to not have to do another tradeshow to stay a successful business.
Bo has worked long and hard to achieve one company goal and that goal was to not have to put anymore money into attending tradeshows. It is an easy savings of $10,000 for each tradeshow plus the loss of production and development time.
At this point he has achieved this goal.
And becauce of this they can devote 100% of their time to designing new product for customers and sticking to fulfilling orders.
Furthermore, they do hire temp work when needed but they always work to keep their overhead low so they will be able to stay in business even if something happens.
Bo loves making monsters, and doesn't want anything to get in his way of doing that.
And at this point vending at a tradeshows would get in the way of doing that.

                Bo and I both agree.
We try to keep the businesses small rather than out of control.
Just ask Ed of Distortions what happens when you let it bigger than you want.
The more money you make, the more money you spend. The less money you keep.

Regardless of what anyone things or says. This is the way some vendors work.
It is all about maintaining that balance I have spoken about before and I think everyone here can understand that if this is how Unit 70 maintains that balance then everyone has to respect that.

I know I do, but I will always missing getting to hanging out with Bo and Brady and they choose to not attend the tradeshows.

It Is All Really Just A Plot!

By staying away from Transworld it makes it that much more difficult for someone to knock off their stuff! (Not that anybody would EVER do this!)
Showing in person at the show gives some people the opportunity to whip out cameras, rulers, look under and inside things, but this has probably Never happened either, right?
I'm just imagining things again, all accomplished naturally with no addictive brain-candy.

                    Kevin

Man good to see a vendor chime in. I personally would think you would be just fine too. Gore Galore is another hard working, honest company with good morals and work ethics. Distortions is another one! I personally would give up a show in a heart beat if all you guys could save money and still make a living! Heck vendors save and we would save all the travel expensis, hotel rooms. heck we would even have more money to give you guys!

Anyway THANK YOU for your post here. And Jim you are exactly right alot of these vendors and the hard working ones at that do get their products ripped off! Shane and its now do you couple of guys get it now? Shane

                      1st show

I would like to see them because it is my first show..... I have bought numerous items online and catalog, sometimes they are what I expected, other times sorely disappointed. I bought a few things that were soooo bad when they arrived we didnt even use them in the background of scenes. But if they cant come I support there decision........because if they are that busy they obviously must be quality.

I think many of your comments are wrong and many are right...

First and foremost the point of the thread was asking who wants to see Unit 70 at the show nothing more.

As always let the drama begin.

I think if you listen to the advice of some and if you go into a shell you will lose sales. If you skip these buyer seller tradeshows you will miss sales that is a FACT. I don't care what anyone says... you will lose sales.

Most Haunt owners have small budgets in relation to some big amusement park there is only so much money they have... if they go to a show and spend it all then thats it end of story. Many haunt owners do spend most of their budgets at these shows. In the past Transworld has been very very very good to Unit 70, this is the show they started.

But you will lose sales no doubt about it.

The issue here is what are your goals? Is your goals to stay where you are, or even if you lose some business, but keep some business, does that make you happy, do you make enough money that makes you happy.

This might be an issue for some vendors but eventually it will take a toll unless most of the work you do is CUSTOM! I do a lot of business with Unit 70 and almost everything is CUSTOM! Once that type of work dries up or goes south for a while then you'll start to feel the sting.

Some vendors just want to do a lot of custom work and that is okay!

Again I think Unit 70 should come to the show and I hope they do!
