Help!!! Slip masks are killing me.....

So am I the only one who can't get these darn slip masks to adhere to the nylons??? I put latex on them, stretch the nylon over a glass head form, and press into place. Am I missing a step? I have never fealt so ignorant in my life! (maybe this is why I stick to grease....hmm....) Any advice? Anybody want to do it for me? LOL

You do dry them really well before putting them together right. They should not be wet at all.

Dry what? the masks itself are completely dry - I put latex on the back to adhese to the nylon. Is that what you're talking about?

Apply latex to the mask and the nylon let both dry and tack together, simple!!! then hide the seam line with more coats of latex....

What I meant was you don't want the adhesive to be wet. It almost has to be dry for it to stick.

Pick up the latest video from Jason it is great for this. I have made nearly a dozen since picking this thing up. It is a great help with this.....


BTW, I honestly can not get the slip latex to stay where I want it event with a tack. They always seem to slide just enough to not be right where I want them. So, I still pros-aid that down and then latex from there. With the foam pieces they stay nice and put to the tacky latex. The slip seems to be too heavy so I need the extra stick. That or I am just not experienced enough cause I am sure the look perfect everytime Jason does one....

I will be working a friends event this weekend and hope to get some shots of my favorite 6 or 7 characters that will get used for the local "Its a $1" not-for-profit event I work with.

I have not seen Jason’s video but if you’re still having problems getting pieces to adhere to each other you may want to try a different type of latex. Not all “latex” is created equal. I’m not expert on the formulas that go into latex but I’ve found that some brands have much higher tack after they are dried then others. Some brands will not stick to another brand even if applying it wet.

Most latex when dry sticks to itself like instant glue but I have had Monster Makers and Screamline latex become tackless after dried (most of the time this is a good thing). One trick is to apply a lite coat of wet latex to both pieces and let it almost dry and then put them together. A good way to get the timing right is to lightly hit both pieces with a heat gun.

If this does not work, I prefer using large wood screws bored directly into your skull.

I have a question... Is there a certain type of nylon that everyone uses or will any old hosiery work? I ask because I had never done one before, but I had a browpiece and some ears laying around so I thought I'd give it a try. I stuck them to some regular pantyhose using a windshield washer fluid container as a form. I built the lower jaw by adding layers of latex. It seems to have worked okay, I just wonder how long it will last, or if a different type of nylon would stretch better, etc.

The best panty hose to use is the cheap ass kind!! i personally use queen size x3 works great everytime .

.. if you have a big head, I do, it also helps if when wearing them you use a do rag like the kind you can pickup at Sally's beauty supply. Helps them slip on better over your hair.
