2008 Haunted House and Halloween Event Directory

Well, it’s that time of year again. As they say, out with the old and in with the new. In order to keep only the most current information in our Halloween Event Directory, HauntedIllinois.com’s Haunt Database was just reset back to zero listings.

What does that mean to you? Well, it means if you have listed your Halloween event with us in the past, you will have to resubmit your information, if you want to be included in our 2008 directory.

You may ask “Why should I bother to submit my Halloween event info so soon? Halloween is months away...” Well, think of it this way. A Haunt directory is like an online billboard. If your event is listed in the directory longer, more potential customers will have the opportunity to see it. According to HauntedIllinois.com’s page view statistics from last year, events that submitted their information in September received 140% more page views than events that submitted in October. Also, events that submitted in August received nearly 200% more page views than events that submitted in October.

Taking those statistics into consideration, you can’t argue the simple fact that submitting your information early works to your benefit. Long story short, the sooner you submit your event, the more page views you’ll get, which in turn means more potential business for your event. Don’t pass up this opportunity to give your haunted attraction some great online exposure.

And remember, you don’t have to run a commercial haunted house to submit your event to our directory. It doesn’t matter if you run a charity haunted house, hayride, haunted trail, home haunt, yard display, pumpkin patch or a Halloween festival. As long as your event is Halloween-related, it is welcome in our directory.

I think what you are doing there is great. I wish HauntWorld would do the same. It would make it alot easier seeing only the most up to date listings. My hats off to you I love what your doing with the listings! Shane

Thanks, that’s the way I believe all Haunt Directories should operate. Resetting the directory every year is THE ONLY WAY to ensure the data is current and up-to-date. Taking any other course of action is the best way to guarantee there is bad data in your Haunt Directory.

Sure, keeping a rolling list of events year-after-year will get you higher search engine rankings and gives you the ability to claim you have the most listings year-round of any directory on the net, but personally I don’t care about such things. What I care the most about is providing the general public with VALID information. I am quite comfortable taking a hit in search engine rankings and I can deal with my directory being nearly empty for a certain period of time. I may not be the biggest and the best, but I take great pride in knowing the information I provide IS current and that it can be trusted by the visitors of my website. That more than makes up for any of the negatives. It’s all about promoting the Industry, period!

The biggest is not always the best trust me Adam take a look around! I could not agree with you anymore what your doing just goes to show everyone that you care about the industry and not yourself or your haunt alone! I also think at the end of the day visitors will be thankful that you kept the haunt listings up to date. If someone drives to a haunt thats out of business they are not going to blame them for bad info they are going to be pissed at the sight where the out of date info came from. The owners of sights like yours should manage them so the info stays up to date and you for sure are doing that!!! GOOD JOB MAN! Shane

Just as a reminder we did delete about 300 accounts from our directory over the past month and willing to delete more if someone can tell us of haunts no longer with us. LOL

Adam, your site does a great job for haunts in your state. But just as you throw out your opinions to me, I will throw one back at you once again...

There are people who live in cities, towns and communities all around your state who have more in common with the next door state than your state.

Take Kansas City for example, half in Missouri and Half in Kansas. To do a haunt directory for Missouri and exclude Kansas in my opinion is wrong.

Take the SECOND BIGGEST population base in your WHOLE STATE... Southern Illinois. Bigger than Springfield bigger than everywhere and anywhere in the WHOLE state but Chicago, and they share a media market with ... drum roll please... ST. LOUIS! You're doing a disservice to people in the Southern end of your state by NOT including St. Louis.

Additionally there are parts of Wisconsin that have more in common with Chicago than their own state, and the list goes on...

Again just as you offer idea's I offer one back... you should show all the states that touch your state and the haunts that border your state.

That way for those people who live on the quote unquote imaginary line can get accurate information. You know if it rains, there is a point where you can travel where on one side its raining and take one step over its not raining.

Same goes with an IMAGINARY state line, of lets say Buffalo and Ontario ...what is the difference? Just a fictional line drawn on the ground that says one end is Canada and one end is Buffalo, but in reality they share everything.

Just my opinion! Either way you do a great job! I hope this year you get a chance to come back to St. Louis and take the tour. Sorry to see Creatures Crypt go...I'll be at that auction since it is SOOOO CLOSE!!!! LOL
