  • Anyone else have a problem with Transworld selling our info?

Do you notice all the email from vendors? I talked to a ticketing company that confirmed that Transworld does in fact sell our contact info. I think that's pretty unscrupulous.

Let me say up front that I'm asked ALL THE TIME TO SELL YOUR information to them... we have more than ANYONE! We have the haunt listings, orders from hauntedhousesupplies.com, we have the magazine, we have all kinds of information from you guys. I REFUSE TO SELL ANYONE ANYTHING EVER!

Ask Patti... they ask all the time and I say NO!

I'm not saying TW did that I'm merely saying no I don't agree with it at all and I will NEVER do it!

I'm glad to hear you wouldn't do that, but I know for sure Transworld did and that's not cool.

        Yes

By way of clarification: Transworld offers a paid service to exhibitors where they can send e-mail campaigns to the attendee list. The exhibitor sends Transworld the e-mail content they send it out. The exhibitor never gets access to the actual list. They do not sell their list to be used outside of those parameters. I am not stating this is good or bad but that's the way it is done as has been done for as long as I can remember.

And also, your buying a ticket to a private industry event. You're agreeing to the terms at purchase that they can send you marketing materials from vendors. If you don't want it, check the emails for an unsubscribe and have yourself removed from the list.

I don't see anything underhanded or improper with what they are doing. As Doug mentioned, the vendor is providing them the materials to send on their behalf. No emails are being sold to 3rd parties.

Just to clarify... I spoke with Jen Braverman who operates the Transworld event.

She clearly stated that they DO NOT sell, provide, and or release any attendee or buyer information to ANY 3rd Parties. The emails that you are receiving are directly from a mailing list maintained by TransWorld and NOT from any vendors. Emails are sent on the vendor's behalf thru the TransWorld staff. So your information is safe and not being sold to anyone else. She also said they would NEVER sell your information to any 3rd parties.

If you don't want to receive the emails, click the unsubscribe option in the emails.

Even if Transworld Exhibits doesn’t sell attendee or buyer information, the end result is still the same as if they did.People are still receiving unsolicited spam emails, regardless of whether or not they sold our information.

As for the “unsubscribe” option that everyone is talking about like it is the end-all be-all solution… I don’t see it that way. What if you want to be informed about theTransworld trade show in general, but not all of the other crap they send out? There isn’t an option for that, so no,unsubscribing isn’t a solution.

I would contact the TransWorld organizers and express your concerns with them directly and see if there is something you can do to work out the issue. They are not a fortune 500 company with over 10,000 employees. Their very approachable and I'm sure willing to help find a solution that all is happy with. Maybe suggest two list, one for TransWorld updates only and other for Vendor updates. Then you can choose which or both your want to be subscribed or unsubscribed to.

Decent idea, but I'm not sure it would do any good. I sent them a complaint email about the spam messages months ago and they never replied. In the past, Transworld Exhibits has rarely bothered to answer my emails and on the very few times they have, it was because I contacted them several times and hounded them with the same question. I have heard the same story from several other people, including vendors. Their communication is poor, at best.

Sorry you've had a bad experience in contacting them. They do put on several shows during the year, so they are busy, but I would drop them a email and maybe a remind after several days if I hadn't heard back. I personally never had an issue getting a response from them, nor have I heard of anyone else having issues till now.

I guess I'm in the minority but I enjoy the emails. I've got some good deals and learned about new companies or ones that I had forgotten about from the show. If it's something I don't care about I just mark it as spam and never get anything else from them in my inbox. Maybe Transworld can come up with something that allows people a choice in getting the emails and everyone will be happy.

Never encountered this problem with Transworld but I have an ongoing problem with receiving marketing calls from companies saying they represent the Halloween and Party Show and want to provide me with housing - even though I already have my housing through the Party Show Housing people. Constant calls almost every day!
Spoke with the show and apparently they get my info from the list of vendors on their website. So my only option is to withdraw my name from the exhibiting vendor list, and no one will know I 'm exhibiting (not that anyone really cares anyway), or tolerate the inconvenience.
The Party Show has said that they would be interested in knowing about anyone who claims to represent the Halloween and Party show but otherwise there is nothing they can do about it.
                        I understand but it suuuks.
