Frightprops gets 50 emails yesterday...
If you missed that part go back and read Doug's posting....50 nasty emails in one day. These extremists and others who are closely related are well connected. Even more so than we are on the forum here. The sky is the limit to what they would do. They turn rabid in their groups with a pack mentality and nothing is wrong in their eyes. Ends justify the means. I would not be displaying that prop this year if you have one. Yes it might get you on the news. It might also get you on the news with fire trucks at 4:30 am a few days later. But I brought home the "Burning Man" barrel prop Distortions had on the show floor of Transworld this year. That of course is ok.

You may be missing part of big picture
In U.S. agriculture we deal with these animal extremists all the time. You see these extremists go as far as threats to burn your business to the ground, bodily harm, etc. Many years ago they torched part of Ag hall at Michigan State University. There are thousands of farms across the USA...one is not to much of a target over another. But a prop builder with a tv show....they are probably salivating and drawing straws to see who gets to do the first dirty deed and be a "hero" for their cause. I have seen the destruction radicals do first hand. So maybe cut Ed a little slack...unless you want to pull midnight watch duty with your Glock 365 a year. He was in a no win situation when you are dealing with finatics.

These aren't dog lovers, they're just narrow-minded people who like to squash things for other people because they feel like they can. They're just like the idiots from the Westboro Baptist church. It may have nothing to do with them, but they can't wait to make other people's lives miserable so they jump on the "offended" bandwagon. I have two dogs and love them to death and we sold this prop on our site. I didn't find it offensive - it has nothing to do with real dogs. These people should stop their protesting and step up to the plate and help real animals that have been abused - adopt a dog, donate to a shelter. Not complain about a rubber prop.
Considering this prop came out last year and none of us ever heard a complaint about it, NONE of these protesters are our type of Halloween customers anyway.

No body told Walmart they had to buy them so Morris should stop selling to Walmart. To think of how the few are controlling the masses in this country is a joke. Most people are looking for the extreme and this is why there is a demand for items like this. Do you really think that this item endorsed cruelty to animals? The top selling video games are all blood and guts, some of the top selling recording artist promote violence, TV is going to zombies and headless horsemen and if you think that Miley Cyrus is upset about the bad press, you are wrong. Go all the way back to Elvis, Tina Turner, The Beatles, Ozzy, Madonna, Mortal Combat, Grand Theft Auto, Reservoir Dogs. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Exorcist, Saturday Night Live, The Jerry Springer Show and last but not least The Howard Stern. Think about it Pee Wee Herman is even back. Extreme is the in thing and always will be.

Way to go Doug! I knew without a doubt you'd never give in to them. You should make it the featured item on the front page of your website.
I would if I sold props but we don't... but I would put it dead center on the front.

Bad publicity
bad publicity is worse than no publicity... shrewd business move on Ed's part.... they've don't need any negativity in their lives or business, whether it's from 50 non-haunters or 50000 non-haunters....it is what it is...

What concerns me the most is that this has set a precedent and given this group of animal activists/extremists a victory. I'm sure it won't stop now, now that Distortions has empowered this group and the media has picked it up. Watch out for the next National headlines: "Animal Activists who WIN Animal Cruelty fight with popular TV show now turn their attention to the atrocities seen in Haunted Attractions". Just in time for Halloween.
Of course, it could all be great for business.

This is a private business owner being harassed by some extremists. It's his decision, no one else's. If he did it for ratings, then he did it for ratings, good for him!
Personally, I'm not offended by the prop in the least bit and find that the activists have wasted their time; however, unless Distortions is openly calling to harass the activists, why bother sinking as low as they? What's the end result, anyway? The activists are not going to say "Oh, never mind keep the skinned dog prop! We love it now!". No, they are going to push back and/or ignore you completely; it's going to embolden their beliefs, not shake them.
On top of that, pushing back shows the activists that it was worth their time, that there was such a visceral response to what they are doing that their act HAS to be "good" and "holy". Being silent and showing they did not make a big splash is going to tell them they wasted their time.
Plus, harassing the activists just makes Distortions look bad, as if they went out and asked people to "strike back", despite the fact that Distortions made the decision to be amenable to the activists. How is this going to look for their future business?
You want to show support, go buy a bunch of skinned animal props from Distortions or something; show that there is demand for the prop still. Professionalism will go a lot farther than gut reactions.

Good times
We received about 50 nasty e-mails yesterday demanding that we remove this prop from our site. Of course we left it up there and sold them all out within an hour. Now that the supplier has given in these wacko's think they have won the battle and now we are getting nasty e-mails demanding we remove ALL dead animals from our site. Apparently dead humans are ok because humans have a voice but animals don't. This is all so highly entertaining and great for driving traffic to my web site! Love it!

I can understand Distortions dropping the product... you have to choose your battles.
I'm just glad I bought myself one before they were discontinued!
Doug.

First off no one on Walmart knows Distortions sells it so they can go on selling it themselves... they didn't have to post that on the facebook. So Walmart drops the prop who cares... so they dropped it. The people in the industry who want the prop can still buy it and they can still sell it on their website to people who want it. I think Distortions needs to belly up here...
I'm sure all we'll be seeing from Distortions in the future are happy clowns, friendly zombies, magical elves, and the Tin Man!
LOL

I can't even believe someone would give into this... Distortions made a HUGE mistake worrying about what 50 idiots think about their dog prop. Its really no different than what you see when we open haunted houses and call them Asylum... we get the mental health advocates calling the local media. Screw them also... what pisses me off to no end is they pick on us but they dont' go after Arkham Asylum Video game or the countless movies where they say a nut job is a serial killer... no just pick on haunted houses because we are easy PR. I say stand up to these morons and turn it around on them! Stand up for what you believe in just like many people stood up for what they believed in before you...
These dog lovers are morons. I own a dog and I love my dog, and never would I think a skinned dog prop made from latex has anything to do with animal cruelty. Furthermore let me just say Ghost Ride is going out of business flat out if they gave into these types of demands half their line is skinned animals. I can't believe Distortions would give into these fools... take a stand tell them to go walk their dog!
