  • Pumpkin Patches Can make you money...

    Hey Folks...

Who read the article in the last magazine about starting your own pumpkin patch??? I was inspired to open my own at my outdoor location last year. I found a source to buy the pumpkins as needed. I'm going to set up a creepy looking pumpkin patch at my haunt.

If I could sell 1 pumpkin for every three or so customers I would sell over 10,000 pumpkins. If I made just $5.00 per pumpkin I'd pocket an extra $50,000.00.

    Thats NOT chump change!!!

Anyone else planning something like this?

Just wondering, but are you growing them or buying them bulk from a grower?

I am growing pumpkins on my farm and will probably offer them at the haunt. However, I know someone who runs a haunt on his farm and has a huge pumpkin patch. The fact is that he does not sell that many pumpkins during the season, and most of those that he does sell come specifically for that purpose rather than to go to the haunt.

Those of us who experiment with this during the season should be sure to discuss how it went.

Just to give you a heads up. My parents own a huge apple orchard and pumpkin patch. One thing youve gotta keep im mind is while charging $5 for the first couple of weeks is a good idea you might wanna decrease the price as the pumpkins get picked over. The other thing is for every 5 pumkins you plant plan on 4 of them getting squashed or not making it throught...once the first frost hits and kills the vines people see the pumpkins and decide its a good idea to do stuff to them. If your haunt is off the road and you can provide a place where people arent going to touch them then move the number down to about 3.
