Hello All! Can anyone recommend an alternative to UltraCal30? I'm having a difficult time locating it around my area (Tampa Bay). I've looked into purchasing it online but the shipping is double the cost of the item so that is less than cost effective. I have not been able to locate a hobby/craft shop that carries life casting materials but continue to search. Any help would be fantastic! Thank you in advance!

Have you tried a pottery/clay supply store? That is where I buy Ultracal and other gypsum products.

Mako-
Highwater clay in st. Pete carries it. I just called them and right now they have seven bags in stock.

Here is a link to their site (one location is in NC, the other in st. Pete)

If you have tryely given up on ultracal then the alternatives to look for are Hydrocal, pottery plaster, and hydrostone. But in my book there is no substitute.

Mako, when you mix your Ultra Cal, add about 25% Acryl 60, its a white binder used to adhere old work with new but will increase your mold strength and longevity. This will replace some of the water you use, but will improve your molds!Listen to them, Children of the night. Oh what music they make.

There is also Hydrocal, and hydrocal white. They work just as good, its a harder stone so shave off exess when its still curing (Hot and a bit soft) Also check building yards that carry concrete, even if they dont have it they know where to order it, same goes for ultracal 30 !! they only sell it in 50 Lb bags, but its alot cheaper then other placesLast edited by The Mad Hatter; 01-13-2011, 08:23 PM.Frank W. Thank you!
Thank you so much Matt and Mad for the additional information. I can honestly say that if we are fortunate enough to get this house off the ground this year and be successful we'll have many of you on this forum to thank for that! Everyone is so helpful and kind. You don't find that in a lot of other industries. We are very thankful to have found this website and forum.
