Went to a Haunt this weekend and instead of buying paper tickets they had custom made coins with the logo on 1 side and their main character on the other.
The coins are taken up. It's a money saver for sure! I started doing it after Paul showed me how it worked! Shane and it's the way to go for sure! Shane this time!
Yea, they keep them. They're about silver dollar sized, not as ornate as a real coin though. I thought it was pretty nifty and hadn't seen that done before anywhere. Everyone was walking around clinking them while waiting in line, and the entrances had big coffee cans full of the ones they had collected.
You couldn't allow the customers to keep them because they could reuse them.
If coins prove to be too costly for anyone thinking about doing something similar, you could always go with wooden/plastic nickels. Those can be done pretty cheap with anything you want printed on them.
They do not keep them..
This is a reusable token that they turn in before entering our haunt.. Like I said Atrox Factory has been doing this for 10 years and we never looked back at selling any kind of paper tickets.
Ive thought of this token idea in the past but never figured out how to do multi haunts or vip using coins
The haunt I went to, you got 1 coin for each attraction, so I got 3 coins and chose which haunt I wanted to go to first (only ended up going to 2, because the line was super long at the 3rd).
I was thinking about the VIP issue when I was standing in line, this haunt had VIPs escorted to the front of lines, but that's not really viable for a high throughput event. I was thinking different colors, but that might be hard to distinguish at night, but then I realized the government already figured it out. You could do different sized or shaped coins, like the Susan B Anthony dollar, or possibly getting a hole through the center like the Japanese 5 Yen coin (though I guess people could go home, drill it out, come back the next day as VIPs).
The coin idea is simple. The VIP coins could be differant to work. The idea of accountablity comes to mind. If the boxes/cans are not secured then dishonest employees can help themselves. They are not numbered I presume which leaves the accountability issue lingering in my mind.
We use a high quality printed numbered ticket. The customers like them and some keep them year to year or even put them into scrap books.
I have wondered how RFID tags or coins could be utilized as the prices continue to drop on them. The farmers use RFID tags on cows pretty effieciently with a number in the tag. This could be used to track comps that are given to radio stations and sponsors.
The next step would be to have the customer keep the RFID tags until at least they are through the event so the experience and pictures could be customized for each one or group. Imagine the RFID tag activating a hallway effect that calls the customers name and follows them or leads them down the hall through speakers that would be generated by a compueter generated synthesizer. Or how about the customer info from their online ticket sale is used for a scene that their house or neighborhood is retreived from google earth and projected onto a scene. The actor uses the picture of their house to point out that their next victim lives there. Or the name of one of the group is projected onto a tombstone in a cemetary scene with the death date being the current day!
